Michael Guercin, Founder & President, Certified Arborist
Michael is a licensed tree expert with more than 30 years in the industry. He is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified arborist. He is also a member of the Tree Care Industry Association and holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from West Virginia University. Michael's commitment to the environment goes beyond the realm of his business. In addition to his active involvement in local industry groups, he is the co-founder of the Wisconsin Avenue Beautification Project, a revitalization effort in NW Washington D.C.
Matthew Madeira, Certified Arborist
Matthew is a certified arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture with 13 years of experience in tree care. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from West Virginia University. He was an active member of the Plant and Soil Science Club and Organic Farming Research Project. He has a broad background in plant pathology, entomology and agronomy. Matt's area of expertise centers on working with our commercial and institutional clients.
Richard F. Handler, Arborist
Richard is an arborist with 20 years of experience in the fields of horticulture and tree care. He has an Associate's degree in Biological Technology from the State University of New York at Farmingdale, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Dowling College and a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from Morgan University. He is a member of the Landscape Architecture Honor Society. He is certified in ornamental pesticide application by state of Maryland. In addition, he has a broad background in plant pathology, entomology and botany.
Jennifer Smith Salaj, Certified Arborist
Jen is an arborist on our staff who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from St. Mary's College of Maryland and an MBA from the Mason School of Business at the College of William and Mary. She joined us in 2013 when she was ready to re-enter the workforce after a successful career in the Telecommunications Industry and several years of caring for her children. She recently became an ISA Certified Arborist and her focus is on Arborist Consulting: Tree Inventory Management, Tree Protection, Tree Risk Assessment, and Tree Appraisal. The mom of an Eagle Scout and one on the path to Eagle, she values the outdoors and spends as much time as she can enjoying it with her family and Labrador Retriever.
Austin Allen, Arborist
Austin Allen is an arborist with 10 years of experience in tree care and landscape maintenance. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Salisbury University. He has worked with the MNCPPC storm water biology program in creating and maintaining bio-retention ponds, removing invasive species, fish surveys, and stream restorations. Since graduating, he has also been a section grower for a commercial greenhouse, plant health care technician, and a district manager for Home Depot nurseries. In addition, he has a broad background in plant taxonomy, plant physiology, plant morphology, and economic botany.
